Amr Okba

Egyptian composer Amr Okba was born in 1972 and is currently based in Austria. He started his musical education with piano and music theory lessons, and in 1994 obtained his Bachelor degree in management. Following this, he studied composition and conducting at the Conservatory in Cairo. After completing his studies he received the Rome Prize and studied with Mauro Burtolotti. He continued his studies with a state grant, in composition at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Reinhard Febel and in electronic and experimental composition at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Dieter Kaufmann. In 2006, Okba’s first opera, “The Book of Going Forth by Day” premiered in Stuttgart. His works are performed in Egypt as well as throughout Europe.
