Dina Khouri
BPA at Gropius Studios
In their presentation at the Gropius Bau, Dina Khouri and Katrin Winkler engaged with the politics of representation and the consequences of erasure: frames, and what escapes them. Their works evoke contested landscapes and marginalised historical narratives as well as the practice of commemoration and of resistance.
The layered gridded mesh surfaces in Dina Khouri’s series Paintings at a Loss (2017–2020) automatically incorporate their surroundings. The effect is countered by a colour palette which varies according to the places where the works are fabricated and exhibited. At the Gropius Bau, Khouri presented works from Beirut (2017), Lagos (2019) and American Waters (2020).
