BPA at Gropius Studios
At Gropius Studios, Postma developed a body of work that expands on recent controversies over the changing urban landscape of Berlin. Forms of Administration, a series of posters, appropriates archival documents that were made by a company surveying the Palast der Republik in the late 1990s, in preparation for the removal of its asbestos. Mirror Stage orchestrates a confrontation between the Palast der Republik and the building that replaced it: the Humboldt Forum. In this monumental installation, a Prussian eagle made in the process of building the Humboldt Forum faces its own mirror image in the facade of the Palast der Republik.
Esper Postma is based in Amsterdam and Berlin. He studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. Recent solo exhibitions include Salome at the Westfälischer Kunstverein, Münster (2019) and Rebis at Stadtmuseum Lindau (2018). He participated in the Vll Moscow International Biennale for Young Art (2020) and will be a resident at Villa Romana in Florence in 2021.
