Victor Payares’ paintings create dense and layered landscapes, abstract cartographies working on multiple scales and temporalities. His work knits together a surface to conjure a sense of archaeological wonder, revealing an image or a text, a sign, only to conceal another.

Bio
Victor Payares was born in Havana, Cuba in 1985. He emigrated with his family to the US in 1995 to escape the so-called “special period” in Cuba. He received a BFA from the Art Institute, Miami International University of Art & Design, and an MFA from the Royal College of Art, London.
