The 63rd edition of Jazzfest Berlin runs from 29&nbsp;October to 1&nbsp;November 2026 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele and in its neighbouring venues A-Trane, Quasimodo and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The concert programme features 24&nbsp;acts, including four world premieres, two European premieres and five German premieres. In total, over 130&nbsp;artists from more than 25&nbsp;countries, including international voices from the Berlin scene, are coming together to celebrate the global jazz community.The focus on community is also reflected in the cross-generational programme. The award-winning short film <a href="https://www.berlinerfestspiele.de/en/jazzfest-berlin/programm/2025/community-week/jazzfest-community-film-lab#film" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">DREAM BABY DREAM</a> – shot as part of last year’s <a href="https://www.berlinerfestspiele.de/en/jazzfest-berlin/programm/2025/community-week" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Jazzfest Community Week</a> with 60 children, teenagers and adults – premiered in Washington D.C. in late April and is screening at numerous music and film festivals both in Germany and abroad as well as at the opening of Jazzfest Berlin 2026 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.&nbsp;Once again the line-up welcomes audiences to make new discoveries and features outstanding representatives from a variety of scenes, spanning a highly diverse cultural and musical landscape. At the same time, it celebrates two pioneering voices – Anthony Braxton and Alexander von Schlippenbach – who have shaped the global scene for decades including a regular presence at Jazzfest Berlin.And so 50 years after his <a href="https://archive.berlinerfestspiele.de/en/jazzfest/events/bfs-mediathek/Jazzfest-Berlin/1964-2003/1976/Anthony-Braxton-Quartet?bpid=2936017151&amp;nlid=3201513448&amp;mid=2680770860&amp;chk=211mm2AAmx" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Jazzfest Berlin debut</a> and seven years after his impressive <a href="https://www.berlinerfestspiele.de/en/jazzfest-berlin/programm/2019/anthony-braxtons-sonic-genome" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Sonic Genome</a> at Gropius Bau, Braxton is back at the festival: in addition to the opening concert at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele with the Anthony Braxton Septet – formed especially for this occasion – he will also be leading a workshop over the course of several days for students at the Jazz Institute Berlin (JIB). Under the guidance of this style-defining composer and multi-instrumentalist, the students will come together to form the Creative Music Orchestra, and their concert in the Georg-Neumann-Saal at the JIB will be a highlight of this year’s Jazzfest Community Week.&nbsp;Alexander von Schlippenbach, who <a href="https://archive.berlinerfestspiele.de/en/jazzfest/events/bfs-mediathek/Jazzfest-Berlin/1964-2003/1966/Alexander-von-Schlippenbach---Globe-Unity-" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">founded the groundbreaking Globe Unity Orchestra in 1966</a> following a commission to compose for what was then called Berliner Jazztage, will bring the festival to a splendid close on Sunday at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele with an anniversary concert 60 years later – in the old formation, but with a new line-up of musicians including George Lewis, Aki Takase and Evan Parker.<h3>With</h3><a href="https://alexanderhawkinsintakt.bandcamp.com/music" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Alexander Hawkins Willow Music</a> (European premiere) <a href="https://amirelsaffartworivers.bandcamp.com/album/new-quartet-live-at-pierre-boulez-saal" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Amir ElSaffar New Quartet&nbsp;</a> <a href="https://tricentricfoundation.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Anthony Braxton Septet</a> (World premiere) <a href="https://www.camilanebbia.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Camila Nebbia Large Ensemble</a>: the darkness, overwhelming and imposing, compelled me to light my own fires (World premiere) <a href="https://chessmith.bandcamp.com/album/clone-row" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ches Smith: Clone Row</a> <a href="https://intlanthem.bandcamp.com/album/hyperglyph" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">CHICAGO UNDERGROUND Duo</a> <a href="https://plaist.bandcamp.com/album/open-form-for-society-ii" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Christian Lillinger’s Open Form For Society II</a> (World premiere) <a href="https://sailcabinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/elin-forkelid-plays-for-trane" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Elin Forkelid Plays For Trane</a> (German premiere) <a href="https://mariaportugal.bandcamp.com/album/erosa-o-percussion-trio" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">EROSÃO PERCUSSION TRIO</a> <a href="https://ganavya.bandcamp.com/album/nilam-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ganavya</a>&nbsp; <a href="https://alexandervonschlippenbach.bandcamp.com/album/globe-unity-50-years" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Globe Unity Orchestra</a>: Apokalyptische Nabelschau <a href="https://georggraewe.bandcamp.com/album/more-than-anything" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Graewe / Jones / Drake</a> (German premiere) <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo2MkmNMyZ8&amp;list=PLEz_mLoNZMeQQ9vuTLvxvdO0cxEJ5Gx2_" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Immanuel Wilkins Quartet</a> <a href="https://ingebrigtflaten.bandcamp.com/album/drops-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (Exit) Knarr</a> (German premiere) <a href="https://karolinewallace.bandcamp.com/album/eon" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Karoline Wallace: Eon</a> (German premiere) <a href="https://laurajurd.bandcamp.com/album/rites-revelations-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Laura Jurd: Rites &amp; Revelations</a> <a href="https://matthiasmuche.bandcamp.com/album/bonecrusher" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Matthias Muche BONECRUSHER</a>: Densities – 12 trombones and percussion Melting Pot with <a href="https://www.harouniqbal.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Haroun Iqbal</a>, <a href="https://www.heidikvelvane.no/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Heidi Kvelvane</a>, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/mikikontrabas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mikolaj Nowicki</a>, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/raigaaaaan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Raiga Hayashi</a> <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3NLiA_LcIc" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Otomo Yoshihide New Jazz Quintet</a> <a href="https://sheentrio1.bandcamp.com/album/transitory" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Sheen Trio: Transitory</a> <a href="https://outofyourheadrecords.bandcamp.com/album/dance-skip-hop" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The Tomeka Reid Quartet: dance! Jazzfest Berlin 2026 on the Radio

Jazzfest Berlin has always seen itself as a place where tradition meets the future and local perspectives meet global experiences, hosting encounters between different communities, working methods and forms of expression. This year, Camila Nebbia, Mariá Portugal and ganavya – Berlin-based artists originally from Argentina, Brazil and the United States – embody this dialogue, moving effortlessly between continents, artistic scenes and musical languages. Christian Lillinger’s internationally cast world premiere Open Form For Society II presents a radically condensed form of chamber music, with five musicians exploring the bandleader’s intricate compositions on keyboard instruments. BONECRUSHER, an extraordinary orchestra led by Matthias Muche, brings together an impressive ensemble of 12 trombones at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.For six decades now, Anthony Braxton has explored liminal spaces, expanded aesthetic boundaries and invented new musical systems: “My music is like my life: It’s in between these areas.” Fifty years after his first appearance at the Berliner Jazztage and seven years after his remarkable Sonic Genome performance at Gropius Bau, the pioneering multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator returns to the Jazzfest Berlin with a septet created especially for this occasion: “What we call jazz is a sonic continuum. It’s not just about celebration of the past; it’s about the hope of the future.”Over four days, the 2026 edition of the festival will bring together 24 acts featuring more than 135 musicians from over 25 countries, including four world premieres, two European premieres and five German premieres. Among the guests are some of the most influential voices in the international creative music scene, including the CHICAGO UNDERGROUND Duo, the Tomeka Reid Quartet, the ensemble Twin Talk, Clone Row led by the versatile drummer Ches Smith, the all-star trio Graewe/Drake/Jones and the visionary saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins’s acclaimed quartet, all from the United States. The human voice also plays a central role in this year’s programme. Artists such as Karoline Wallace, Alejandra Charry, Wendy Eisenberg and Amir ElSaffar move between song, improvisation and transcultural sonic research. Jazzfest Berlin welcomes two outstanding artists from the United Kingdom, Alexander Hawkins and Laura Jurd, as well as key figures of the Scandinavian scene, including Elin Forkelid and the ensemble (Exit) Knarr led by bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten. From Japan, Otomo Yoshihide joins the festival with his quintet, while Iranian clarinettist Shabnam Parvaresh presents her Sheen Trio at Jazzfest Berlin for the first time.Creating spaces for encounters, experimentation and the inclusive, sometimes rebellious spirit of jazz, passing this on to future generations and engaging new audiences are at the heart of this year’s Jazzfest Community Week. As part of a multi-day workshop, 25 students from the Jazz Institute Berlin will immerse themselves in Braxton’s musical universe and join him to develop the JIB Creative Music Orchestra. Once again, the district of Moabit will become a hub for numerous neighbourhood and lunchtime concerts, as well as two workshops that playfully combine music, theatre and circus. For the fourth year in a row, the five-day ImproLabs for Kids will welcome around 30 primary school children to KULTURFABRIK Moabit and Kulturmanege Moabit.The festival will conclude with a Berlin legend: Alexander von Schlippenbach and his Globe Unity Orchestra. The ensemble made music history in the 1960s when it challenged audiences at the Philharmonie Berlin with its uncompromising free jazz. Sixty years after its Jazzfest Berlin debut, the orchestra returns with Apokalyptische Nabelschau to close a festival edition that brings together more than 200 artists, young people, children and adults from Berlin and around the world, aged between six and eighty-eight. Together they embody the artistic diversity, cosmopolitan spirit and innovative strength that have always defined jazz: Dream Baby Dream!

DREAM BABY DREAM

To this day, Berlin remains a refuge, a place of longing and a blank canvas for people from all over the world. This is especially true of the city’s international art and music scene, with its atmosphere of openness, diversity and constant renewal. This urban pluralism is eloquently expressed by the intergenerational short film DREAM BABY DREAM, created in collaboration with 60 Berliners as part of Jazzfest Berlin 2025 and providing its theme for 2026. This award-winning collective film project opens the 63rd festival edition at Haus der Berliner Festspiele and explores questions of belonging, utopia, dreams and trauma through music, movement and poetry.&nbsp;
