How To Bake Bread In The Parking Lot

In this workshop we will bake with the bread-baking oven 'Backhauswagen', which temporarily resides on the site of Radical Playgrounds. We would like to focus on the preparation of food as a social act in which many hands are involved: Bread expresses regional diversity, soil characteristics and climatic conditions, but also cultural influences and human impact. At the same time, baked goods are subsidized, dependencies are created and used as a political vehicle. The collective preparation of food in public spaces has emancipatory, connective and encountering qualities that we would like to explore while baking together.
Backhauswagen:
The Backhauswagen is a free, accessible, mobile, supplying and caring infrastructure for areas in transformation: a bread oven, rising chamber (for sourdough) and smoking oven in car-trailer format. It is primarily engaged in the activities of BündnisFeuer & Flamme at Dragonerareal, Berlin. Between 22.5-23.6. Backhauswagen is in residency at Radical Playgrounds.
Mascha Fehse deals with questions that concern public space and the commons, focusing on micro-scale collisions, applied experimental approaches and a design discourse that triggers curiosity and leaves room for a variety of perspectives. She lives and works in Berlin.
Jonas Kang moved to the kitchen after studying materials science to continue experimenting: Baking, braising and grilling with different ferments and heat sources - together with others.
