Lesiones incompatibles con la vida

Angélica Liddell, whose work was distinguished by the Spanish National Award for Dramatic Literature, calls this early piece from the year 2003 as “naked and vulnerable” as most of her other works. She invokes her voluntary childlessness as a weapon of rebellion against a misogynistic and patriarchal society, which only recognises three categories of women: virgins, mothers or whores. Her own, non-childbearing body thus becomes a means of revolt against this society. As is often the case in Liddell’s early work, the entire evening rests entirely on her: She is the author, director and sole performer. Her long, accusing, highly personal protest poem is at the centre of this concentrated work, which presents Liddell first and foremost as a dramatist and makes her own origins an almost intimate subject of discussion.
