Eligible for applications are dance groups consisting of young people of school age or in training.
You love to dance alone or in a group?
Dance is your language?
Are you into contemporary or urban dance?
Have you developed a choreography or a dance piece?
Do you want to meet other dancers, try out new styles in workshops and show your work on a stage in Berlin?
Then apply now with your dance piece for the Tanztreffen der Jugend 2022!
For all young dancers and choreographers aged 11 to 21.
We are looking for young dance enthusiasts who express what they have to say through dance. All contemporary and urban dance styles are welcome, regardless of whether you move on dance floors or asphalt. We welcome diversity: you can experiment with different forms of expression, combine styles or cross the borders to theatre, performance, art and music. You decide on the themes and content. You can apply as an individual, as a duo, as an independent group or as an ensemble from a school or dance school.
Our independent jury of dancers, choreographers and dance teachers will select the winners of the Tanztreffens der Jugend from all the entries. They show their work publicly in front of an audience in Berlin and are invited to network and test themselves in an intensive workshop programme with other young dancers, dance professionals and other artists.

Please submit your application via our Application Portal. After you have registered, you can enter all the details of your application there. Please also upload the following application materials:
- A video recording of your project or dance piece. It may also be a rehearsal. We prefer to take recordings of pieces filmed with a single camera in long shot. Depending on how well a project can be presented, several parts are possible.
- Comments on the video recording. For example, is it the premiere or a rehearsal? What can be seen already and what not yet? For example, are costumes or elements on stage missing? Write us more about it in the comments.
- Please indicate how you would like your work to be presented.
- Information about the group. What is the composition of the ensemble? How do you work? Where do you train or rehearse? How was your work created? What material did you use for it? You are welcome to submit further supporting material (project descriptions, programme notes, etc.).
If you have any questions or problems using our application portal, please call us at +49 30 254 89 213.
Based on the video recording and the information from the application, the jury decides which groups they would like to get to know better as part of a shortlist. For this purpose, individual jury members go on a journey and watch a performance or a run-through of the works on site. Afterwards, they invite the respective groups to a get-to-know-you discussion. We hope that the pandemic will allow these encounters. Following the performance visits and talks, the jury will make a decision on the invitation to the Dance Meeting of Youth 2022 at the end of May.
The prize of the national contest is an invitation to a one-week meeting in Berlin. Like all national contests of the Berliner Festspiele, this consists of three main areas:
The selected ensembles present their plays or projects.
The young dancers work in workshops with dance professionals and other artists on a wide variety of topics related to contemporary and urban dance.
The concentrated further education programme with workshops and discussion formats is aimed at the directors of the selected groups, dancers, choreographers and students.
All award-winning productions will be recorded during the Tanztreffen der Jugend. The recordings will be made available to the ensembles afterwards and can be viewed in the archive of the German Centre for Children's and Young People's Theatre in Frankfurt am Main.
