Shortlist

104 applications have been received for the Theatertreffen der Jugend. The jury included 21 of these in the shortlist. In each of the 21 pieces, the jury found something remarkable and exemplary along the selection criteria for the Theatertreffen der Jugend.

The selection process stipulates that the pieces will be viewed live by part of the jury. This can be either a regular or an improvised performance or an entire run. After the performance, the talks with the ensembles and their directors are important for the jury. The talk is about getting to know the ensemble and learning something about the work process and the thoughts of the performers about their piece. Because unfortunately this year the jury was unable to visit all of the ensembles from the shortlist and therefore no fair selection process was possible, we decided not to make a final selection. Each of the pieces could have been selected for the Theatertreffen der Jugend, because the final selection of the eight productions wants to show as diverse a picture as possible of the theatre work by and with young people, with regard to their contexts of origin, themes, forms and aesthetics. It is never easy for the jury to make this final selection. Perhaps it would have been particularly difficult this year, as the ideas of shortlist show.
