Focus Living Theatre
The Living Theatre, founded in 1947 in New York by actor and director Judith Malina and painter and poet Julian Beck, stands for radical, political theatre that makes no separation between life and art.
Inspired by Antonin Artaud, Erwin Piscator and Bertolt Brecht, the company made a name for itself during the 1960s for their revolutionary, pacifist-anarchist works, some of which were presented in Berlin as part of Berliner Festwochen (“Frankenstein”, “The Maids” and “Mysteries” in 1966). On the occasion of Berliner Festspiele’s 70th anniversary, Theatertreffen will dedicate a series of events to the Living Theatre, continuing their “Focus”-series that was started in 2014.
