27 Stations on the Ringbahn
As part of the 75th anniversary of the Berlin Festspiele, Japanese theatre artist Akira Takayama invited audiences with What If Berlin to embark on tours led by 27 guides aboard the Ringbahn. Over four weekends, more than 3,000 visitors took part in over 350 tours covering all 27 Ringbahn stations, exploring alternative visions of Berlin’s future. In the audience vote that followed, he asked participants to decide which of the projects he had presented would be most needed in Berlin’s future, and which of the proposals deserved to be realised. The public vote ultimately named the Central Site of Learning and Remembrance at Treptower Park S-Bahn station as the audience’s favourite project.

All year round, Berliner Festspiele host a multitude of festivals, exhibitions and individual events in two houses – the Haus der Berliner Festspiele at Schaperstraße and the Gropius Bau near Potsdamer Platz – and other venues in the city.
