Erika Stucky & Roots of Communication

Born in California and grown up in Switzerland Erika Stucky loves contrasts. Eluding classification she surprises her audience with vocal acrobatics ranging from avant-garde jazz to modified pop-songs. Her motto: Serious fun.

At this year’s festival she will be presenting her very own combination of New Orleans and Alpine music.

Dave Douglas Quintet

Dave Douglas displays a very strong European influence. His variety of styles includes everything from hardbop, free jazz, effervescent electric jazz, mellow chamber music to Balkan rhythms – all mixed up with humorous interludes incorporating both traditional jazz and avant-garde. A few weeks ago many of Downbeat poll’s critics seemed to follow these guidelines in voting him trumpeter of the year.

Wolfgang Puschnig ‘Alpine Aspects’

Wolfgang Puschnig’s services to Austrian jazz are unsurpassed. Nevertheless, not resting on his laurels the flautist and saxophonist shies away from celebrity fame. A founding member of the Vienna Art Orchestra, his creative approach includes a wide range of activities: he has been accompanying poetry readings of Ernst Jandl, introducing Punk Jazz to Vienna with the Pat Brothers, working with Korean drummers Samul Nori and collaborating with violinist Mark Feldman. Together with long time companions Jamaaladeen Tacuma and trumpeter Herbert Joos and supplemented by the brass band Amstettner Musikanten the project Alpine Aspects lives up to its name: founded in 1991 they have been fusing jazz with Austria’s alpine music traditions.
