Like their neighbors, the legendary New Orleans music community was devastated by Hurricane Katrina and its chaotic aftermath. Noted music documentarian Mugge (Deep Blues, Last of the Mississippi Jukes) creates an emotional portrait of horror, heartbreak and hope as the musicians who lived through the disaster pick up the pieces and try to rebuild their lives.
Many Crescent City artists perform, including Dr. John, Cyril Neville, Kermit Ruffins, Irma Thomas, the Iguanas, Cowboy Mouth, Eddie Bo, and the ReBirth Brass Band. Interviews with the musicians and others make it clear how a massive hurricane, broken levees, floods, looting, black mold, and their consequences have wreaked havoc on music and life in America’s most colourful city.
The official world premiere took place in New Orleans on 13 May and was followed by a special benefit concert featuring many of the film’s musicians. Funds raised were donated to the Tipitina's Foundation to assist displaced musicians and their families and help rebuild school music programs in New Orleans.
