Vocalists have always held an exceptional position in jazz. Roy Nathanson who successfully managed to integrate Debbie Harry in his band The Jazzpassengers is blending pop, post bop, hip-hop and poetry, trying to find his original way in between songbook and vocal abstraction. In his Sotto Voce programme all band members turn into vocalists – the drums being completely replaced by human beatbox Napoleon Maddox.
