This documentary is a tribute to the man who founded a band in Los Angeles with Charles Mingus and Dexter Gordon fame at the age of 13, who played a major role in Count Basie’s and Duke Ellington’s big orchestras, who contributed his very own imprint to the legendary Gerry Mulligan Quartet, who originated a trailblazing ensemble with Buddy Collette and, later, Eric Dolphy, who in the 80s invented the term ‘heavy metal jazz’, who wrote the film score for Roman Polanski’s movie Repulsion, who inspired legions of drummers and who until this very day is on an untiring search of detecting and exploring new musical fields
