Marilyn Crispell © Claire Stefani
The American free jazz pianist Marilyn Crispell has developed a unique style; she has refined the art of breaking out of the norm without using any provoking gestures. Her play reverberates influences of Cecil Taylor and Paul Bley, her fervid understatement reminds of Anthony Braxton whose quartet she joined for more than a decade.
Drummer Paul Lytton was a founding member of the British improv scene. He has played with the London Jazz Composers Orchestra, Globe Unity and Ken Vandermark’s Territory Band. Lytton combines enthusiasm with cool precision – a perfect match with Marilyn Crispell.
