The horizon of the Swiss singer Sarah Buechi is broad. Coming from a musical family, she first learnt the violin and guitar and played in a rock band, but soon began to concentrate entirely on vocals. Classic jazz vocals with Lauren Newton and Susanne Abbuehl, the Indian Karnataka College of Percussion, a trip to Ghana and studies with Steve Coleman in New York – all these influences shape her project “Flying Letters”. In her expressive songs, all of which she pens herself, she shifts between onomatopoeia and verbal song. She is flanked by the Stefan Aeby Trio, three outstanding protagonists of the young Swiss scene, who set Buechi’s stories to music with surprisingly harmonious phrasing without the least sentimentality.
