The Art of the Trio III
Plaistow © Raphaelle Mueller
Plaistow, a piano trio based in Switzerland but named after a district of East London, is a groove band with a brain: a reminder that jazz can still move the body while appealing to the mind. The pianist Johann Bourquenez (born in 1976 in Besançon), the bassist Vincent Ruiz and the drummer Cyril Bondi (both born in Geneva, in 1990 and 1980 respectively) sweep the listener away on a journey across the frontiers between minimalism, trance and trip-hop, showing themselves to be masters of the art of creating and releasing tension – a key ingredient of jazz. Their first two albums, “Lacrimosa” and “Citadelle” , demonstrated their potential, with hints of LaMonte Young and Charlemagne Palestine in their exploration of repetition and the build-up of overtones. This performance will be based on material from their latest recording, “Titan”.
