When Ingrid Laubrock, who will perform with Mary Halvorson on the first of three nights of dialogues, was asked to nominate a Berlin-based musician with whom she would like to perform on the second night, she chose Aki Takase. “We’ve wanted to play together for a long time but we never managed it,” she said. Now their desire can be realised. Takase, born in Osaka in 1948, studied in Tokyo before moving to the United States, where she worked with Lester Bowie and John Zorn, among others, and then to Germany, where her musical partners have included Han Bennink, Evan Parker and Fred Frith as well as her husband, Alexander von Schlippenbach, with whom she made her Jazzfest Berlin 2014 appearance in a programme of the music of Eric Dolphy.
