DanCity

DanCity’s music highlights the power of the moment and cannot be attributed to any one stylistic category. Their focus lies on breaking through genre boundaries through improvisation and reconceiving the allocation of roles between percussion and guitar. At the intersection of composition and improvisation, somewhere in between pulsating polymetrics and cosmic sound plateaus, the trio unfolds a broad sonic spectrum. Elastic and flexible, it navigates its way through unconventionally structured landscapes, while keeping its feet on the ground. This project with its unconventional instrumentation was preceded by intense encounters in duos between drummer Nathan Ott with Bremen-based guitarist Julian Fischer and the Israeli guitarist Tal Arditi. In DanCity, all three pool their experiences. The band’s name is a play on words combining two important features of their musical make-up: density and the multiple layers of textures and rhythms of the big city.
