Dark Matter

Richard Barrett / Per Inge Bjørlo

In their performance installation ‘Dark Matter,’ composer Richard Barrett and sculptor Per Inge Bjørlo refer to cosmic phenomena (‘dark matter’) and their interpretation in philosophy from the pre-Socratics to the Renaissance. In the stage area of the Festspielhaus, the musicians of the Ensemble Cikada (Oslo) and Elision (Brisbane) come together with the audience in a sculptural installation, whose experience is combined with Barrett's multi-layered, live electronically transformed musical structures. The result is a complex structure that attempts to explore the place of humans in the universe through artistic means.
