Concert | Schule machen: QuerKlang
Seven musicians/composers: Peter Ablinger, Dietrich Eichmann, Claudia Herr, Christophe Meierhans, Chico Mello, Silvia Occougne, Scott Wilkinson. Five teachers. Ten students from the University of the Arts. One hundred Berlin pupils - from five different schools.
What do they have in common and why are they performing at MaerzMusik?
They work together on the ‘QuerKlang’ project, which aims to explore contemporary musical material. In collaboration with musicians and music students, pupils are encouraged to develop and perform their own compositions.
QuerKlang:
In contrast to previous practice in schools, where music is primarily ‘reproduced’ – contemporary music is only considered in the form of individual selected works.
But it also goes against the tendency of institutions to isolate themselves, because here concert organisers, musicians from the independent scene, universities and schools work together productively.
