Concert | Japan and the West | Chamber Music
The Ictus-Ensemble from Brussels is one of the most reputed ensembles for contemporary music. Its repertoire is quite remarkable and rich, ranging from Georges Aperghis to Steve Reich, from Tristan Murail to Tom Waits. In its Berlin concert Ictus will present works by younger composers like Yan Maresz, Misato Mochizuki and Oliver Schneller, who all make use of the allegorical and structural potential of different visual phenomena in their compositions: the phenomenon of crystallisation in Misato Mochizuki’s Wise Water, Oliver Schneller employing the painting technique of the clair/obscure or chiaroscuro, or the image of a “network” by Yan Maresz. Images of topographical structures expanding in space, the process of imagination, the invisible behind reality – all find their acoustic counterparts in highly individual arrangements of sound.
