Concert | Schule machen: Querklang

Querklang – Experimentelles Komponieren in der Schule

Seven professional musicians and composers: Cathy van Eck, Dietrich Eichmann, Aleksander Kolkowski, Elena Mendoza Lopez, Silvia Ocougne, Kirsten Reese, WU WEI. Eleven teachers. One hundred pupils from five different Berlin schools. Eleven students from Universität der Künste (university of arts), Berlin.

This is their second common project dealing with contemporary musical material. Working in close cooperation with professionals and students, the pupils are encouraged to develop and perform their own compositions.

Having witnessed the successful QuerKlang concerts of the pilot project for MaerzMusik 2004 – for which, among others, the project was awarded a prize by Kinder zum Olymp – we look forward to this year’s six new compositions and first performances.

Berlin is the perfect home for QuerKlang: the project benefits from the multicultural sounds of the city that surpass any stylistic borders. The participating musicians and composers get an opportunity to expose their own approaches to the everyday world of pupils and youngsters, the schools get the opportunity to bring something of the city’s pulsating artistic life into daily school routine.
