Concert | Sonic Arts Lounge | Alpine Music ↔ Town Music
Steamboat Switzerland rages, snarls, rumbles, hammers, groans – and grooves! It may sound like a harmless Dixieland band but is probably today’s most exciting band from the borderland between avant-garde and hardcore: innovative music, bursting with energy, presented in brilliant live performance. “Hammond avantcore trio” is the name that three Swiss musicians have given to an ensemble whose style is so very difficult to place. The trio is at home at jazz, rock and new music festivals in Europe, North America and Asia, and yet stands out wherever it performs. The labels that have been applied to try and capture its style range from “dark power ambient” to “boulez on the rocks”. Within the framework of its successful concept of multi-idiomatic modules interacting with improvised textures, Steamboat Switzerland on stage presents a topical mixture of instant composing and various material, some of which has expressly been dedicated to the trio. Tonight, the focus will lie on material by composer and drummer Michael Wertmüller, whose recent composition die zeit.durchführung will be performed by the trio for the first time.
