Concert | Dmitri Kourliandski & Structural Resistance Group – Portrait II
The “in profile” concerts in the Glass Courtyard at the Jewish Museum focus on works by the Moscow composer Dmiitri Kourliandski, in “dialogue” with works by StRes and the young Russian composer Vadim Karassikov.
Dmitri Kourliandski, born in 1976, is currently a guest of the German Academic Exchange Service’s Artists-in-Berlin Programme. Together with five Russian composers of his generation, Boris Filanovsky (St. Petersburg), Sergej Newski (Berlin, Moscow), Anton Safronov (Moscow), Alexei Sioumak (Moscow) and Valery Voronov (Cologne, Minsk), he set up the Structural Resistance Group (StRes) in 2005. These very diverse musicians decided to join forces to create an aesthetic platform that would draw attention to new Russian music and clarify its position within the music scene in Russia and abroad. They develop concepts and programmes for joint concerts and publications. The group has been working together with the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble since 2005 and has performed in many Russian cities, as well as the Dutch cities of Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Tilburg. StRes is now appearing for the first time in Germany at MaerzMusik 2009 in Berlin where they will perform a host of new German and world premières.
