The audiovisual performance unitxt / univrs (derivative version) by Carsten Nicolai aka alva noto will be premiered in this form at MaerzMusik 2011. The rhythm-orientated material relates to mathematical structural principles and further develops the concept of the album unitxt (raster-noton, 2008).
Whereas on unitxt the focus was on the processing of rhythmical grids (unit = measurement, element) and information (“txt” = data, language), univrs (raster-noton, autumn 2011) is concerned with the conceptual differentiation of a universal language (unit/universe) with its origins in mathematics, defined here on an auditory level.
The visualisation of unitxt / univrs is based on the real-time manipulation of software-generated test images by audio signals. Using Derivative's TouchDesigner software, the visualisation is deconstructed into its generative components as an intricate triple projection and as such gives an insight into its structural composition.
