The choreographic concert gefaltet is Sasha Waltz’ and Mark Andre’s first joint production. Together with seven dancers and four soloists, they explore the interactions between classical and New Music, between sound, movement and silence.

Selected works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart form the musical experimental field, such as the string trio Divertimento für Violine, Viola und Violoncello KV 563 (1788), and compositions by Mark Andre including the piano solo iv 1 and the string solo iv 2 and the string trio iv 8. In electronic music, a »Faltung« (a convolution) is a process that creates acoustic answers via acoustic impulses. In gefaltet, this principle is expanded into a dialogue between the dancers and the musicians: the impulses and resonances of their bodies in space unfold and fill gaps and thresholds, emptiness and distance.
The exploration of contemporary and classical compositions has for many years constituted a focal point of Sasha Waltz’s artistic work. By including instrumental soloists as the work evolves and at the performing level, the interplay of dance and music in gefaltet takes on a new dimension within Sasha Waltz’s genre-overlapping work.
