DJ Ipek

“Eklektik BerlinIstan” is a hybrid and eclectic sound mix of: Middle Eastern or Asian-Balkan-Folk-Electro-Fusion, Anatolian & Oriental-Dub-In-Electro, Minimals, Gypsy-Funk & Break-Beats & Pop und Berlin Electro & Minimal.

In her sets, Berlin- and Istanbul-based DJane İpek İpekçioğlu aka DJ Ipek takes her audience on an audio trip through the cultures and musical styles of Turkey, North Africa, Israel, Persia, the Balkans, Greece and Bollywood, with strategically planned side trips to the United Kingdom and the USA. As a pioneer for Orient & Asian Music she already influenced the Berlin club scene in the 1990s. Her mixes contain surprising elements in the sometimes too obliging flow of club music. In 2003 she toured with Ojos de Brujos in Andalusia, and in 2005 she played with Dzihan & Kamien in Amsterdam. In this context, music critic Daniel Bax called her a mistress of ceremonies for transcultural understanding.
