This workshop will build on the material from “Time Binds” concerning chrononormativity, or the regulation of human activity through timing. Drawing from work in my forthcoming book “Beside You In Time”, I will focus on the use of rhythm to collectivise physical activity for the opposed purposes of disciplining individuals into mass forces, and disrupting dominant rhythms to produce resistant or alternative forms of sociability. I will be particularly interested in how the rhythmic conjoinment of individual bodies makes possible forms of relationality that might be claimed as incipiently or broadly queer.
