&ldquo;Topographies of Hearing&rdquo; is a series of sound installations, concerts and durational compositions commissioned by MaerzMusik that pose questions about immersive listening encounters and the ways they are experienced beyond concert halls and performance spaces.

Christina Kubisch&#39;s works make the surrounding space resonate, allowing us to experience it in all its complexity. In her &ldquo;KUPFERGARTEN&rdquo; (&ldquo;Copper Garden&rdquo;) as part of &ldquo;Topographies of Hearing&rdquo;, the sound artist consolidates political and economic problems as well as aesthetic and ecological issues.&nbsp;

The work of composer and computer musician Jessica Ekomane is based on the mediation between contrasts and the questioning of structures that are taken for granted. With &ldquo;Bonds&rdquo;, she uses the carillon in the Tiergarten near the Haus der Kulturen der Welt and the Parochialkirche, as an intervention in public space.

Over the course of five decades, Nancy Holt explored how we perceive our environment and how we attempt to understand our place on the surface of this planet. From March 2024, the Gropius Bau presents &ldquo;Circles of Light&rdquo;, the artist&rsquo;s most comprehensive survey exhibition in Germany to date. It includes film, video, photography, sound works, concrete poetry, sculptures and expansive installations as well as drawings and documentation from over 25&nbsp;years.

It arrives at Gropius Hain for eleven weeks like an itinerant, temporary funfair: both melancholic and light-hearted, sad and joyful, funny and serious.

With How Love Moves, the Gropius Bau presents the first major institutional solo exhibition of Pallavi Paul. As an artist and film scholar, Paul engages the camera as her primary tool to interrogate how regimes of &ldquo;truth&rdquo; are produced and sustained in public life. Through her multimedia practice spanning film, installation, performance, drawing, photography and writing, she negotiates the documentary not only conjured as film or image &ndash; but as an ecology of materials, networks, global alliances and systems.

The festival commences with an immersive auditory experience, reviving a pivotal moment in the history of new and experimental music through INA grm &ndash; Groupe de Recherches Musicales&rsquo; Acousmonium. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Fran&ccedil;ois Bayle&rsquo;s invention, we will showcase compositions for the loudspeaker orchestra by composers such as Beatriz Ferreyra, Eve Aboulkheir, Fran&ccedil;ois Bayle and others. EnsembleKollektiv Berlin explores the realm of conscientious listening with works by Helmut Lachenmann as well as Michelle Lou and Ashkan Behzadi. The intergenerational narrative unfolds with Simon Steen-Andersen&rsquo;s interpretation of Karlheinz Stockhausen&rsquo;s &ldquo;Musik im Bauch&rdquo; performed by Les Percussions de Strasbourg. 
In this edition, we will continue our focus from last year on composer and artist Lucia Dlugoszewski: we have curated scores, including some unfinished ones, with Marco Blaauw and Christine Chapman that have been reconstructed by Ensemble Musikfabrik, rebuilt Dlugoszewski&rsquo;s percussive instruments, and restaged works conducted for dance, performed by Berlin-based dancers in collaboration with Katherine Duke and the Erick Hawkins Company. Spread throughout the city, the series &ldquo;Topographies of Hearing&rdquo; features installations and interventions by Christina Kubisch, Jessica Ekomane, Audrey Chen and others. 

In navigating the uncharted territories of our collective futures, this year&rsquo;s edition embraces the ongoing processes that are underway rather than fixating on conclusive ideas.

Its title translates to &ldquo;The Rite of Spring&rdquo;.&nbsp;For this evening, it is accompanied by the &ldquo;Sc&egrave;ne d&rsquo;Amour&rdquo; from &ldquo;Rom&eacute;o et Juliette&rdquo; by Hector Berlioz and her choreography &ldquo;L&rsquo;Apr&egrave;s-midi d&rsquo;un faune&rdquo; to the music of Claude Debussy.
