Catherine Lamb’s music is influenced by the tuning systems of European and Indian classical music, as well as by her fascination with the physical interactions between sounds and spaces and her exploration of these phenomena with the musicians. Her composition point/wave for guitar and electronics combines indoor and outdoor spaces in an installation: in a solo performance, Didier Aschour, guitarist and director of the Ensemble Dedalus, brings the concert installation to life. The Secondary Rainbow Synthesizer, developed by Lamb and Bryan Eubanks, becomes a shadow and co-player of the guitarist. In point/wave, Lamb uses this special configuration to explore subtle frequency relationships and live electronic atmospheric phenomena in contrast to acoustic soundscapes.
As part of MaerzMusik, the Dedalus Ensemble is performing several portrait concerts offering insight into unique projects, all based on open scores. These projects and the exceptional musicians involved have enabled the ensemble to develop its own distinctive, dense sound. Defying traditional categories, the ensemble’s artistic practice follows elaborate concepts yet conveys a sensual experience that remains both radical and captivating, subtle and powerful.
