Concert | String Quartets

Iva Bittová, Škampa Quartet

Introduction with Volker Rülke
at 19:00, Ausstellungsfoyer (exhibition foyer)

Janáček’s chamber music, and most of all his string quartets, draw upon most different extra-musical sources, among them literary sources or even the composer’s private life, which in turn has become the inspirational source for a number of novels. A less known source of inspiration are the folk music and traditional songs from the surroundings of Janáček’s hometown Brno (Brünn).

In a double concert of the renowned Škampa Quartett and young singer and violinist Iva Bittová these inspirational roots will come to life. Like Janácek about one hundred years ago, also Bittová incorporates the playfulness and exuberance of Moravian musical tradition in her compositions.
