New York Philharmonic – Lorin Maazel

Introduction Gerhard Müller
at 19:00, Hermann-Wolff-Saal

One thing that the cities of New York and Berlin have in common is their rich and diversified cultural life. In conclusion of Musikfest Berlin the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under its chief conductor Lorin Maazel will present a feast for everybody’s ears: the wonderfully dreamlike and delicate “Adagietto” from Gustav Mahler’s 5th Symphony, one of the central pieces of the Second Vienna School, and the “Seven Early Songs” by Alban Berg, with their highly romantic lyrics, interpreted by Deborah Voigt, who was euphorically applauded at Deutsche Oper Berlin for her “Empress” in “The Woman Without a Shadow” and the part of the female marshal in the “Rosenkavalier”.
