Henrike Iglesias

Henrike Iglesias is a theatre collective based in Berlin (Germany) and Basel (Switzerland). It was founded in 2012 by Anna Fries, Laura Naumann, Marielle Schavan and Sophia Schroth, and was joined by Malu Peeters and Eva G. Alonso in 2016. The group’s sphere of activity extends from the popular to the political, and via the personal back to the popular. They regard pop culture and mass media phenomena as a mirror of social conditions.

In 2012, they debuted with their first performance “wir kommen nicht aus dem showbiz (auch wenn man das vielleicht denken könnte)” at the State of the Art Festival at the University of Hildesheim, where some of Henrike Iglesias studied, and won the audience award at the 100° festival Berlin. In 2014, Henrike Iglesias created the show „I can be your hero baby“ at Schauspielhaus Leipzig and designed an erotic haunted house for and audience of 5 seated in a Renault Twingo called “Erotische Außenreinigung Ihres PKWs oder: Car Wash” for the festival “Männer in Garagen” at Sophiensaele (Berlin). In 2016, they produced “GRRRRRL” as a co-production between the theatres ROXY Birsfelden in Switzerland and the Sophiensaele (Berlin) and got invited to do a residency as part of the MixOFF Berlin/Montréal of the OFFTA live art festival in Montréal. They worked with actresses from the State Theatre at a show called “#Heldinnen” at Theater Bielefeld in 2017 and for the first time opened the doors of their „Academy“ - a mobile educational format also known as “feminist dream school” - that they developed for the festival “The Future is F*E*M*A*L*E*” at Sophiensaele Berlin and which they have hosted on different occasions ever since. In 2018, they came flying down from the ceiling in “1968” at Münchner Kammerspiele and created the live-porn show „OH MY“ that is now touring internationally. Until 2020 Henrike Iglesias have been cooperating with Münchner Kammerspiele and junges theater basel in the theatre cooperation fund “DOPPELPASS” established by the The Federal Cultural Foundation. Their first show in this programme is called “Fressen” and is a performance about the cultural obsession with what women do and do not eat, and came out in 2019. The second show is a performance with and about young people and the revolutionary and political potential of their self-presentation on the internet which premiered in 2020. In 2020, Henrike Iglesias produced their interactive and corona-save show „UNDER PRESSURE“, in which they tackle the pressure to perform, competitiveness and the concept of winners and losers. In „UNDER PRESSURE“, the audience functions as judges, who get to decide, with the help of their own smartphones, who of the three performers is „THE BEST“. „UNDER PRESSURE“ is part of the showcase Stages Unboxed at Theatertreffen 2021.
