Gloria Meynen

Gloria Meynen is a Cultural and Media Scientist and teaches at the Zurich Academy of the Arts and at Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen, where she represents the Chair of Media Theory & Cultural History. She habilitated in 2017 at the Department of Cultural Science at Leuphana University Lüneburg with a monography entitled “Inseln und Meere”, which will be published by Matthes & Seitz Berlin in the autumn of 2018. From 2006 to the end of 2011 she was research assistant with the NCCR Iconic Criticism at the University of Basel. From 2000 to 2006 she worked as a research fellow in the research unit "Bild-Schrift-Zahl" at the "Helmholtz-Zentrum für Kulturtechnik" of the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. She was awarded her doctorate for a cultural history of two-dimensionality at the "Kulturwissenschaftliche Seminar" of the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, and studied German Philology and Philosophy in Bonn, Cologne, Konstanz, Bochum, and Berlin. Her main fields of interest include media theories of the Cold War, a cultural history of the moon and the theory and history of the future.
