Doug Wamble Quartet // Michael Blake’s Blake Tartare

Doug Wamble Quartet

Doug Wamble claims to be only at the beginning but his career has already taken off: a contract with Branford Marsalis’ label, gigs with his brother Wynton, Steven Bernstein and Cassandra Wilson are impressive achievements for the Tennessee guitarist. Last June the New Yorker wrote enthusiastically: “Country Libations is the debut album of the year!”

Considerable experiences in singing, acoustic guitar playing and composing allow him to blend rural blues, gospel, swing and free jazz in a very successful manner.

Michael Blake’s Blake Tartare

Michael Blake connects New York’s downtown-avant-garde to more recent notions of playing in the Big Apple. In the nineties the Canadian-born tenor saxophonist belonged to the Lounge Lizards, currently he is playing in Ben Allison’s Medicine Wheel as Gil Evans’ successor. Supervised by Teo Macero his projects Kingdom Of Champa and Drift turned into big events, with Slow Poke he was indulging in swashbuckling trash-jazz. The essence of it is his current band Blake Tartare (very “raw a la steak tartare”). Keyboard-player Soren Kjaegaard, bass-player Jonas Westergaard and drummer Kresten Osgood, a student of Ed Thigpens, have all played together in Copenhagen as Fuschia before getting together with Blake in New York. The fifth member of the band is Teddy Kumpel.
