Concert
With only two albums the Berlin band Yakou Tribe has gained brand status. After Road Works the quartet came out with Red And Blue Days. The band’s specialities are live performances though, urban jazz – Berlin more specifically – their theme. “…here we are free to do whatever we want, great variety and liberal attitudes are the creative basis for us: swing and avant-garde, country and rock music never limit the scope and leave room for new expressions”, saxophonist Jan von Klewitz says.
Arto Tuncboyaciyan’s music is saturated with Armenian and Anatolian traditional sounds that are mixed up with all sorts of musical influences. Born near Istanbul he immigrated to the US in the beginning of the eighties, there he tried out different combinations of folk and jazz music with ethno-jazz-pioneers like Oregon, Paul Winter’s Earth Band, Al DiMeola’s World Sinfonia, Night Ark and Joe Zawinul. In the new millennium he went back to his roots in Eriwan, where he has since opened his own club. With the Armenian Navy Band he achieves his own idea of “avant-garde folk”
