Daktari © Paweł Perczyński
Named after a popular tv series of the early seventies, this “Daktari” is a group of young improvising musicians from Poland. The quintet strives to organically combine klezmer-rock, jazz improvisation and folk songs, and name Mogwai, Sonic Youth, Gastr Del Sol, Andrew Hill, Julius Hemphill or Don Cherry as their influences. Reminiscent of New York’s downtown klezmer experimentalists like the Klezmatics, Naftule’s Dream or John Zorn’s Electric Masada, Daktari frame their music in an avant-garde structure, leaving the musicians lots of individual space.
Finally, Warszaw has it’s own downtown band!
