Daniel Erdmann carries the “Mangelsdorff gene”. Just like the late great trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff, he tends to imbue every single note with depth, meaning and vigour. His German-Danish-French trio Das Kapital (named after Karl Marx’ Capital) reclaims the socio-political discourse for the jazz world focussing on German composer Hanns Eisler’s work. Complemented with projections by filmmaker team Manic Cinema they create an audio-visual show that merges impressive imagery, melodic tunes and improvised music perfectly.

__________

An iconic figure in the jazz world since many decades, Wayne Shorter has never lost his incalculable and versatile spirit. In his career he joined only a few bands steadily but with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, with the Miles Davis Quintet and Weather Report he made jazz history. His quartet was founded some ten years ago and –although the line-up has been unchanged ever since– this highly interactive unit has a reputation of playing every concert like it was the first and the last, with the three younger musicians providing a perfectly attuned base for Shorter’s solistic excursions.
