Together with local partners, initiatives from Moabit and musicians from the festival, this year’s Jazzfest Community Week will feature projects that foster creative participation and open up new spaces for encounter. It will celebrate its finale with a rousing closing event at the Jazz Institute Berlin.

The evening starts with a solo performance by Japanese pianist Aki Takase, one of the most dynamic composers and improvisers on the Berlin scene. She will then be joined by a small string ensemble to present the world premiere of the “Timeless Small Project”, the prequel to the “Timeless Orchestra Project”, which will be launched in 2027, bringing together young musicians and led by Takase together with Daniel Erdmann. One focus of this musical exploration is to shape the present moment beyond linear concepts of time by drawing on achievements from the past and blending them with innovative ideas for the future.

The evening concludes with the world premiere of the newly created transcultural repertoire by Moabit Imaginarium, a musical encounter project developed during the Jazzfest Community Week to build bridges among different musicians and their respective artistic scenes. Professional musicians from the quarter of Moabit with diverse musical backgrounds are invited to join the newly formed ensemble to experiment together with representatives of the Berlin jazz scene.
