Concert | Salon of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation as a Guest of MaerzMusik

Singer Pur

Since its founding in 1991 – originally consisting of five former members of the Regensburger Domspatzen and a soprano – the vocal ensemble Singer Pur has developed into one of the most outstanding in its field. For the project ‘Tenebrae’, which was first performed in Rome in 2001, composer Wolfgang Rihm, who dedicated his ‘Seven Passion Texts’ to the Singer Pur ensemble, set two Passion texts to music. The result was a series of expressive motets, which were juxtaposed in concert with a composition by Salvatore Sciarrino and early works from the 16th century.

As part of MaerzMusik, another setting of a text from Wolfgang Rihm's ‘Seven Passion Texts’ will be premiered at the Sophienkirche. Together with Salvatore Sciarrino's composition Responsorio delle Tenebre, in which he has set part of the Good Friday liturgy to new music, and old works from the 16th century, the ensemble's own compilation of compositions offers a new perspective on the idea of ‘spiritual’ or ‘sacred’ music.
