Concert | Sonic Arts Lounge
In Berlin, Europe's tango capital, tango is becoming increasingly diverse. Not only has Astor Piazzolla's tango nuevo long since found its way into the salons, but people are also dancing to the modern sounds of the Gotan Project, which combines tango with jazz elements.
The tango experiment continues in the 21st century. Following the introduction of jazz elements and hip-hop grooves, a completely new style of tango will premiere at the Sonic Arts Lounge. Sound art + tango = Klango, a tango that does without the bandoneon altogether, but is composed of noises, electro-acoustic elements and concrete sounds.
International sound artists, many of whom come from Argentina, have composed very different Klangos. However, all Klangos have one thing in common: you can dance to them.
Rhythmic tango fragments and sequences are the starting point for Argentine composer and leader of the group Urbano Milonga Mario Verandi's music project, which combines classic tango with contemporary beats such as dub and dance electronica.
Argentine musician Gato Leiras mixes sound collages of manipulated radio recordings and original sounds from his hometown of Buenos Aires into his music. Together with musicians Gustavo Bauchwitz (Buenos Aires) and Marek Barath (Slovakia), he controls his digitally processed sounds live on the computer, accompanied by electric and acoustic guitar, keyboards and bandoneon.
