The term „soundalike“ is used in the film and commercials industries to denote pieces that are similar to but not exactly like the ones protected by a musical copyright. The purpose is to avoid an infringement of copyrights: it is a market strategy. However, it can also turn into an artistic process. MaerzMusik will present a new approach at “soundalike”, through the application of a specially designed software, where music is not displayed in the context of genres but as an authentic phenomenon.
Performances will include new works by Peter Ablinger, Christian von Bories and Michael Iber. For the first time the “Neue Deutsche Welle” band Der Plan will be accompanied by an orchestra.
The “blurred” rendering of originals will be the strategic central theme of the programme, or, as Moritz Reichelt of Der Plan put it: “copyright is the legal gold standard of capitalism”.
