For the first time ever the 18 microtonal ragas will be staged in a solo performance. Cage’s chance operations and vagueness encounter the principles underlying Indian music. The interpretation is shaped by the classical-Indian background of singer Amelia Cuni. According to Cage’s instructions, they may overlap with vocal and theatrical solos from the Song Books. The meaning of the word “raga” – that which colours the spirit – will be emphasized by stage design and lighting.
