Audio-Visual Art | Sonic Arts Lounge

Ryoji Ikeda & Carsten Nicolai

Like Carsten Nicolai, who presented his impressive project syn chron at last year’s MaerzMusik, also Ryoji Ikeda moves between the worlds of visual art and new electronic music, between art museums, galleries and the club scene. Both explore the communication ways between the arts and different levels of perception. Their working methods are based on a symbiosis of scientific, mathematical methodology and an advanced aesthetic practice. At SONIC ARTS LOUNGE Ikeda will present two of his most recent works: C⁴I (2005) and formula (also 2005) as well as cyclo (2003) together with Carsten Nicolai. All pieces generate, in the artists’ typical ultra-minimalist and purist styles, new hybrid forms of audio-visual art between concert, installation and film.
