The Understated Brown

The Understated Brown (aka TUB) are dedicated to presenting the hooks, tropes and general cultural residue of our collective classic rock repertoire. They do this so that today's generation has a chance to experience this body of work in a unique, live, intimate and, above all, live setting. TUB was formed in Berlin in 2004 by Boris Hauf (synthesizers, organ, saxophone), Thomas Meadowcroft (organ) and Steve Heather (drums). What had initially begun as a covers band, gradually morphed, taking the great rock songs of past generations to the next level in a heady mix of drones, repeats, extended solos, and never-ending refrains. Yet, as if the purifying, stripped-back sound of synths, organs and drums was still not enough, in recent times TUB has also boldly ventured into increasingly larger and more complex terrain with their ground-breaking “TUB with Strings”. Of course, it would be stating the obvious that the next step for a classic rock band would naturally be to evoke the rock classic. And yet that’s where TUB went, that is where they are going, and that is why they are proud to present “TUB with Strings” at MaerzMusik 2009.
