ensemble ascolta

The concert by Stuttgart-based ensemble ascolta brings staged performances and the visual and theatrical side of new music to the forefront. The ensemble recently commissioned works that highlight this aspect of contemporary music and reveal its development. The result was a colourful panorama between sound and action. One of the pieces is Fragmentos de teatro imaginario (2009) by Elena Mendoza, a series of six instrumental pieces, which seem tailor-made for the ascolta musicians. It is an instrumental and theatrical game using musical building blocks and the imagination of the listener. Another work is Dream Diaries (2008) by Violetta Mahon or more specifically her alter ego Jennifer Walshe. It is based on detailed, surrealist dream diaries, inspired by André Breton. They form the foundation of the performance and simultaneously serve as the score.

ensemble ascolta will present a new work by Pei-Yu Shi, which also explores the area between traditional musical performances, situational stage presence and theater.
