Concert | Piano Recital | Berlin Debut
MaerzMusik invites you to the Berlin debut of the Dutch pianist Ralph van Raat with works by Magnus Lindberg, Jonathan Harvey and Pei-Yu Shi.
Lindberg relentlessly searches for new sound possibilities with his impressive, powerful music and is one of Finland’s most significant contemporary composers. Energy, colour and a fascinating density of sound are the hallmarks of his compositions. Ralph van Raat recently released an outstanding recording of Lindberg’s complete works for piano.
The piano works by the British composer Jonathan Harvey have also already been a focal point of the pianist’s concerts. Harvey’s music produces a very unique radiance of mystical beauty. At the heart of his musical concept is the perception of the single sound as a resonating sound complex, whose resonance enables not only a spectral analysis, but is also understood as a spiritual expression. One characteristic of Harvey's earlier works is the interaction and interchangeability of electronic and traditional live sounds.
Pei-Yu Shi studied Chinese music, composition and electroacoustic music in Taiwan and Germany. She unites influences from western and eastern culture in her instrumental and electroacoustic works. Ralph van Raat will perform the premiere of her Märchenetüden (work commissioned by MaerzMusik).
