Library of MaerzMusik
with Juliet Fraser and Soosan Lolavar
Juliet Fraser’s Lament: A Ritual of Letting Go is the point of departure for this talk about the transformative power of the mourning song. In conversation with composer and performer Soosan Lolavar, Fraser will discuss the process of re-finding the voice through engagement with polyphonic and collective traditions of the mourning song from the Renaissance to the present day. For the artist, lament is not only a musical form but a methodology – a practice that gathers composers and performers into a shared exploration of vulnerability, resonance, and communal expression.
The talk will be moderated by Irene Lehmann, author and editor of numerous publications on contemporary and experimental music and theatre, among them mf:fm - Magazine for independent Music Theater.
